On the 19th of December, I went to a small event at Howest.
A couple of weeks prior, the whole school got an email with an invitation to this event. And knowing we could use the topic of this event in one of our projects for school, I couldn’t refuse this opportunity to learn more about the OpenAI API.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the day arrived, I joined the meeting with a friend of mine that was also involved in the project I mentioned earlier.
We were greeted by the two students that organized this event. They told us that mr. Casier (a lecturer of ours) was going to give us the explanation that evening. Which was a pleasant surprise, because i actually liked receiving courses from mr. Casier in previous years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We first got introduced to the chat functions of ChatGPT, which of course was nothing new to students in informatics.
We got shown how to properly write prompts to receive the best output possible from these AI-tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that, we were shown what tools like DALL-E can do. And to my surprise, the images that were generated were from extremely high quality. Not only the resolution of course, but they actually showed everything that was asked for and even more …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deno<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

But then, the real new stuff came. Deno.
It’s software that takes on the role of both runtime and package manager within a single executable. This of course is different than for example Node (which was created by the same creator).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deno actually was announced by Ryan Dahl in his talk “10 things i Regret About Node.js”. And it really is an improvement over Node.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We got to see a detailed talk about what basic features were possible with almost no real difficult code at all. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conclusion<\/h4>

In short, I was pleasantly surprised with the presentation we got from mr. Casier. The topic was very interesting to our group. We were actually struggling with something that was mentioned in this presentation, which made things more clear and showed us that we shouldn’t look into it any longer.
